As everyone here knows, the Asian community is a hugely important and vibrant part of life in the Bay Area. Which makes it especially upsetting to see the multiple reported incidents of violence perpetrated in recent weeks against this population, particularly its elderly. Don’t just accept the hate: Here are some ways you can chip in to help.

Women-powered palate pleasers

The Bay is blessed with an overabundance of women-owned and -operated restaurants. What better time to support this vital section of the dining industry that during Women’s History Month. From pozole verde at Guadalupe Guerrero’s El Pipila in San Francisco to rosemary fried chicken at Fernay McPherson’s Minnie Bell’s Soul Food Movement in Emeryville to sipping Sauvignon Blanc at Beth Novak Milliken and Lindy Novak’s Spottswoode in St. Helena, this is your guide to eating and drinking female around the Bay Area.

Outside Lands

Like most public events, San Francisco’s biggest popular music fest took the year off in 2020. But the organizers of Outside Lands have announced that the arts, food, and music festival will be happening in 2021. To add to the anticipation, they’ve pushed back the date so that it’s planned for this year’s three-day Halloween weekend. Sounds like fun.

LACMA reopens April 1

The long wait ends even sooner for members, during March 26-30 preview days. Everybody needs tickets. Members can get theirs starting March 19 at 10 a.m.; public tickets go on sale March 25. Six new exhibitions kick off the reopening, including the vast video installation “Bill Viola: Slowly Turning Narrative;” a retrospective of key Japanese contemporary artist Yoshitomo Nara; and sixteen new acquisitions.
